When I was little I was overwhelmed seeing this film. One of the many debts that I owe to my father.
It was so shocking and alienating, so rebellious, ironic and desperate .. so absurd and radical. So different .. that I could not see him erivederlo. Also this is a classic.
Classic is not for us catafalque, mausoleum or school reading. But living flesh. Soul in the night. What continues to speak in the spiral of the seasons and years ...
"I am the last, and talk about listening to the Void" .. said a voice in one of the last rays of equinoctial Lovecraft.
Well, this is a classic.
The reverse of a .. "Classic."
Spermagenesi, sprouting perennial trail, race invincible seed .. against the empty pride of simulacra.
And 'when the face can light without preaching. Without sound suspended in midair.
For the same strength that flows from it. For that power which never tires of running. For the push which was generated.
Their minds are full of stale merchandise, pistol in slow motion, expired yogurt. Words, words, yes, words that are returnable, returnable bottles, echoes of echoes of Electrical and performed a monologue.
Entire shelves were born dead. And days on days have been dropping like bottle caps.
Carpenter has always worked with few resources and waste material, creating, with what many others would have just thrown away, worlds of absolute power .. Could tell a story like few others.
In 1988, the full goldenage raeganismo, this movie came out like a bell ringing at midnight. The film takes us into a future, then that is a disturbing eternal present, all the dark heart of hedonism Reagan. The company dissolved in the worship of profit and selfishness inviduale. The caste of brokers and financial sharks.
The cult of obsessive consumption. As drug consumption, consumption as a disease. Unbridled capitalism. Screw cardboard deprived of blood. Oligarchs and rivers of poor despised and abandoned.
This was the hedonism Regan. And though these trends are never gone, never as then became Ideology. Never as then was celebrated. Never before had showed his face under the mask. These trends have always existed. But we rarely was the despair of those days, when under a sea of subliminal messages and new rich, and implosion of local fashion .. any form of idealism seemed banished to the furthest ball.
Paradoxically, our age less rich and triumphant of those days has generated more resistance and less resigned to those powerful demonic forces still in place.
Carpenter's film is a scream angry, ironic, visionary against any form of spiritual degradation. The aliens hidden among us
like cancer are symbols of all those brilliant men who have annihilated the sacred mystery that leads itself to a life of
consumption and cynicism.
Carpenter knows that radicalize makes powerful message transmission, and starkly fills his film an apocalyptic fury that few films before and after have had.

At the end of the post I included three clips from the movie.
The first shows the hidden subliminal messages behind the advertising information that the players can see through special glasses blacks. Those glasses blacks in the film are "what you can see." Metaphor of the "new look" with what can only dissipate the illusions and look behind the Lamb the Wolf.
The second is a very strong speech that appears on a television illegally. Lyrical in its desperate wake-up call.
The third is brilliant in creating an apocalyptic pathos that makes the hypnotic fascination that the film produces. Fascination of the rest of a movie that demolishes fascinations.
But the whole film is full of unique moments.

A Classic has a feature not to be overlooked COMPAGNEROS .. A classic never dies, does not like to die, he can not die. Just why choose death. To return again, as the sacred worms of Dune, in just endless.
